Note about Birthday Treats: Families, we love having students bring a birthday treat to share with their classmates. However, as a school, teachers cannot take too much time away from lessons every day to do bigger celebrations. And having gift bags or similar creates too much distraction. Parents, please keep treats simple and do not bring treat bags, toys, gift bags etc. We want to celebrate each student, but we cannot accommodate individual parties for everyone. You may bring a store bought dessert or treat for the class, but please otherwise celebrate at home. Thank you!
Notice from Student Nutrition: Communication was sent home, here are some of the main points: Meal account balances that remain unpaid after January 30, 2026, will be referred to a collection agency under the parent/guardian’s name. We want to help. Contact us early to work on a plan that prevents collections. Feeding students and supporting families is our priority. Families interested in donating to help cover delinquent accounts can also reach out to our office. Contact: RapidCityStudentNutritionOffice@k12.sd.us | 605-394-4061

FeedingSD Backpack Food bag program: Do you receive the backpack bags? If so, would you be willing to share with us how it has helped you or positively impacted you? Please email Patricia in the office at patricia.scarborough@k12.sd.us, it will be kept anonymous. If you feel you would benefit from your student receiving a bag of non-perishable foods each Friday for the weekend, please let us know in the office and we can get you a form to sign up your student.
Attendance:
Reminders: if your student is out for medical reasons, please provide a doctor’s note, so that if those absences accumulate, we will have those on file. After 10 absences due to medical, if there are no doctor’s notes, they will be considered unexcused. We call families whenever a student is absent and has not already been excused. If we do not hear back from you about your student’s absence, then it will be marked as unexcused. 8 unexcused absences will result in a Truancy referral to the States Attorney’s office. A reminder that you may call 394-1801 at any time and leave a message if it is after hours. You may also email: RapidCitySCOffice@k12.sd.us, Dojo message, or send a note with your student.
Parking/Traffic: Please respect traffic rules and stay on your side of the street. Take a few extra moments to find a safe spot to park. Also, please help your children remember to use the crosswalk. Thank you!
Have a great weekend!
