Wondering where to follow all the school news?  Where to find the events calendar?   There’s an app for that!  RCAS has an app.  Search Rapid City Area Schools in your app store.  Once you have downloaded the app:
1- Go to Settings (gear icon)
2- Set your Notification preferences
3- Subscriptions – this is where you can select South Canyon (and any other schools you want to follow)
4- Default Organization – set to South Canyon
5- When you are on the Home page, there is a drop-down just below where it says Home.  Select South Canyon to see our Feed and Events.  This is where you will be able to see Weekly Announcements, school events and anything else we might post. 
6- From the Menu button (green with 3 lines), you can access the Feed, School and District Events, Staff contact information, Dining (breakfast and lunch menus), Documents (such as Forms and Flyers), and Notifications

Parent Advisory Committee: The PAC has been established to assist the District in meeting the unique culturally related academic needs of American Indian/Alaska Native students so that such children can meet or exceed the same challenging academic achievement standards adopted for all students in RCAS occur in a consistent manner.  See "Documents" for the PAC Meeting Dates for the year.  South Canyon will be hosting the February meeting.  If you would like more information on the program please feel free to reach out to Kara Big Crow, Title VI Manager, Office of Indian Education (605) 394-4071 ext:1247

If viewing from your phone, be sure to note whether breakfast or lunch is selected.  Menus are subject to change, so we ask you to remind your students to be patient and not complain if there are changes. 

If your student will be tardy for any reason, please call the office to notify us ASAP and to order your student’s lunch choice (A or B).  The default is Option A if your student comes in late and we were not otherwise notified. 

FEEDING SD:
South Canyon is partnering again with the FeedingSD Backpack Program.  Children may receive a bag of nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods during weekends and holidays when school is not in session.   The food bag will be placed inside your child’s backpack on Thursday or Friday to be sent home for the weekend. If you would like your child to receive a BackPack bag, please complete form found in "Documents".  You may email the completed form to patricia.scarborough@k12.sd.us, or turn it in to the office.  Delivery begins September 5th.

ATTENDANCE for this year: Please review the entire Attendance Policy here and herePer the District and Board’s direction, we will be requiring documentation and doctor’s notes per the Policy, regardless of what has been done in the past or at other schools.  Without proper communication and documentation from the parent, absences will be considered unexcused.  After 8 unexcused absences, a referral will be made to the State’s Attorney’s office. 
Please note the following excerpt from the Policy:
a. A doctor’s note may be required for excusal after 5 consecutive absences due to illness.

b. A doctor’s note may be required for excusal after 10 cumulative absences due to illness.

STUDENT REGISTRATION:
There is a large percentage of our returning students for whom returning student registration still has not been completed.  If you have NOT logged into Skyward and gone through student registration for this school year, please do so ASAP – it is not too late!   This is required to confirm all student and emergency contact information is correct, as well as to sign forms specific to this school year. If you need help getting logged into your account, please contact us here in the office at 394-1801.

Parking/Traffic:  We urge you to please be SAFE, RESPECTFUL and RESPONSIBLE during drop off and pickup! 
        Park in the correct direction
        Do not pull over on the opposite side of the street. 
        DO NOT park across cross walks, in the bus parking area or in front of fire hydrants. 
        Be aware of foot traffic in the parking lot during pickup
        Do not block parked cars from being able to leave.
        Be Patient and Drive SLOWLY!
